《Silent Landscapes 山河不语》 is an experimental animated short film that integrates traditional Chinese ink-wash aesthetics with generative artificial intelligence. Centered on the theme of the relationship between humanity and nature, the work employs the fluid, transformative, and reconstructive qualities of ink-wash imagery to explore the tensions between the natural ecosystem and the human condition amidst the expansion of modern industrial civilization. The film unfolds from the perspective of a fisherman—beginning with a serene moment of solitary angling amidst a landscape of mountains and waters, transitioning through the alienation of aquatic life and the pollution of the rivers, and culminating in a state of disorientation and flight within an industrial metropolis. This progression constructs a visual narrative that traces the shift from a natural order to the predicaments of modernity. Ink serves both as the film’s visual language and as a medium for conveying Eastern philosophical inquiry; the spreading, erosion, and dissipation of the ink act as metaphors for the transformation of the ecological environment and the spiritual dilemmas faced by individuals within modern civilization. By moving beyond the production methods of traditional ink-wash animation, this film explores the artistic potential of AI-generated imagery in expressing Eastern aesthetics. Through the fusion of technology and art, it invites a re-examination of the complex relationships between humanity and nature, as well as between tradition and modernity.
Réalisation
The director graduated from the Department of Arts Management at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts and is currently pursuing a postgraduate degree in Art Studies at Qingdao University of Science and Technology. Their research focuses on experimental art and animated imagery. As an AIGC animation creator, they specialize in keyframe generation and the curation of artistic styles.
