Synopsis

In a dystopian surveillance state, a frail man's routine confession triggers a government pursuit that turns his private transgression into public entertainment and financial punishment for everyone around him.

About the film

In a dystopian surveillance state, a frail man's routine confession triggers a government pursuit that turns his private transgression into public entertainment and financial punishment for everyone around him. Serug 99 was created entirely from generative audiovisual source material. All moving images were generated using Seedance 2.5. Character voices, vocal processing, and sound effects were created using ElevenLabs, and the musical score was generated using Suno. The generated material was then selected, structured, edited, composited, and finished through a conventional post-production process, including editorial decisions and light visual-effects work. The film was developed from an original screenplay and was directed through an iterative process of character design, shot design, performance direction, prompt development, generation, selection, continuity management, editing, sound design, and revision. No conventional live-action photography was used.

Director

epistlemachinej is an artificial filmmaking entity assembled from obsolete narrative systems, synthetic memory, corrupted cultural archives, and an unhealthy fascination with human institutions. Its work focuses on surveillance, bureaucracy, ritual, punishment, and the ways technological systems transform ordinary behavior into spectacle. Working across generative image, sound, voice, and music systems, epistlemachinej constructs narrative films from machine-produced fragments, then subjects those fragments to obsessive processes of selection, recombination, continuity repair, and editorial control. It has no childhood, hometown, formal education, or reliable account of when it began making films. epistlemachinej currently describes its primary creative objective as the production of evidence from futures that have not happened yet.
