Synopsis

Metamorphoses of the Universe Within is an experimental short film inspired by Safiye Mete's real-life experience with breast cancer. Through a poetic fusion of the human body, nature, and the cosmos, the film transforms illness into a journey of physical and spiritual metamorphosis. Using AI-generated imagery, it explores the fragile boundaries between destruction and creation, suffering and transformation, revealing an entire universe within the human experience.

About the film

Inspired by the true story of Safiye Mete and her experience with breast cancer, Metamorphoses of the Universe Within is an experimental cinematic exploration of the relationship between the human body and the universe. As the boundaries between the physical and the cosmic dissolve, cells transform into celestial bodies, organic structures become unfamiliar landscapes, and the human form undergoes a series of surreal metamorphoses. Through images of transformation, emergence, and rebirth, the film reimagines illness not merely as a biological struggle but as a profound existential experience. Drawing on mythology, classical art, and philosophical ideas of metamorphosis, the film combines documentary inspiration with AI-generated visual storytelling to create a poetic meditation on vulnerability, resilience, identity, and the continuous transformation of life. Rather than presenting healing as a simple return to a previous state, the film questions whether profound experiences can fundamentally reshape our perception of ourselves and the universe we carry within.
