HOMICIDE is an original psychological crime film about intimacy, desire, jealousy, and possession. Zhou Kai and Zhang Zimeng travel through Yunnan in a camper van they have modified themselves, selling coffee and making videos as they live the life they once dreamed of sharing. At a mountain music festival in Yunnan, Zimeng finds herself drawn to Evan, a musician who has taken an interest in her. He makes no promises, yet Kai already sees his own defeat in the easy, flirtatious closeness between them. Zimeng tells Kai she wants to end their relationship, but he remains convinced that Evan is the reason. Everyday resentments, along with Kai's growing unease as Zimeng attracts more attention online, have long been eroding their relationship. He tries to hold on to the life they built together, but finds himself increasingly unable to accept her decision to leave on her own terms. As shame and the fear of losing control harden into humiliation and possessiveness, the camper van that once carried their shared dreams becomes a trap for the woman determined to leave.
Director
Mushengxin is an independent Chinese filmmaker and the founder of Muxin Studio. With a background in screenwriting, his work explores contemporary relationships, social expectations and the subtle tensions of ordinary life. He develops original, character-driven films through an AI-integrated filmmaking process, working across screenwriting, directing, visual development, performance design, cinematography and editing. For Mushengxin, generative AI is a production medium that expands the possibilities of independent filmmaking while preserving the filmmaker's personal vision and creative judgment.
