Adrian Chiles is on the verge of leaving The One Show over plans to replace him as host on Friday nights with Chris Evans.
Despite being offered his own chat show as a consolation, Chiles is said to be furious and threatening to quit altogether.
Evans, 43, would be brought in to anchor a new, extended Friday show that would start the weekend with a bang, in the wake of Jonathan Rosss departure.
He would work alongside Chiless co-host Christine Bleakley.
However Chiles, 42, has apparently insisted he does not want anyone else on the sofa with Miss Bleakley, 31 though she is said to be furious about being dragged into the mess.
A BBC insider said: Adrian has rejected a massive offer, which includes his own Friday night chat show on BBC2.
There will be no other offer on the table, our offer is incredibly generous and clearly you cant do everything you cannot appear on TV six times in five days.
But Adrian has spat his dummy out and is saying Im going to leave. He has rejected our offer and were now just waiting to see whether he will walk or calm down.
The source added: Christine is sick of it, she is furious. She feels that she is being dragged into a problem which isnt her own.

Chris Evans: BBC bosses want him to replace Chiles on Friday One Show
Chiles is on a £1million-a-year deal with the corporation and has become one of its most high-profile presenters in recent years.
He signed his current two-year contract in 2008 despite a £6million offer to be the face of ITV Sport.
His contract expires in the next few months, and while the BBC has not offered him any more money for a new deal, the Mail has been told the terms include a continuation of his current projects, including BBC1s The One Show, the BBC2 Apprentice spin-off show, Youre Fired, and the Sunday night Match of The Day 2 programme.
He would also be made one of the anchors of the World Cup coverage this summer and is being lined up as one of the corporations faces of the 2012 Olympics.
He has also been offered the two-series deal for his own Friday night BBC2 chat show.
The source continued: This is a massive offer, but Adrian has said I dont want anyone else working with Christine.
He has also realised that in the absence of Jonathan Ross, a Friday night hour-long show becomes an interesting prospect with some Alist guests that he does not want to miss out on.
A spokesman for Adrian told the Mail: Adrian is totally committed to the One Show and its a matter that he is discussing with the BBC.
Evans is being groomed as one of the BBCs stars, after being handed Sir Terry Wogans breakfast show slot on Radio 2 last month.
Bosses believe he is perfect for The One Show having previously hosted TFI Friday on Channel 4.
But his last major TV show OFI Sunday on ITV was axed after just five episodes.
No formal approach has been made to BBC Breakfast sports host Hollins, 38, to take over from Chiles if he leaves, but the source said the Strictly Come Dancing winner would be our guy.
But his stance could backfire as the BBC is thought to have Chris Hollins waiting in the wings to take over the Monday to Thursday slots if he leaves.
