North American International Auto Show 2011
August 9th, 2011
The North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) is an annual auto show held in Detroit, Michigan at Cobo Center, usually in January. It is among the largest auto shows in North America.
The first auto show was held in Detroit in 1907 at Beller’s Beer Garden at Riverside Park and since then annually except 1943-1952. It was renamed the North American International Auto Show in 1989. Since 1961, it has been held at Cobo Center where it occupies nearly 1 million square feet (93,000 m²) of floor space. The show is particularly important because the Metro Detroit area is the location of the headquarters of the Big Three American automakers, Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors.
The 2011 show ran from January 10 through January 23.

As the 21st Century begins as the Age of Drought, a look at three places–Florida, China, and Nevada–where dryness has gone big. In Florida, the world’s most famous swamp, the Everglades, has been turning into a salt flat. In China, vast problems with water pollution have been compounded in some areas by problems of having no water. And Nevada’s Lake Mead, once the largest reservoir in the world, now is given a 50% chance of drying up completely in the next dozen years.
ALMOST one of five TV series chosen to be invited Fribourg International Film Festival’s forum on Middle East TV series in Switzerland in March 17th-20th, 2010. The Fribourg International Film Festival, an annual affair, celebrates film and cinematography hailing from Asia, Africa and Latin America. This year, TV series were a central theme for the festival, with a selection of Middle Eastern and Swiss shows put under the microscope, for an in-depth and multifaceted analysis of the impact television has on society, our continuing fascination with TV shows, and the ingredients necessary to create the next hit. That the creators, Ali Kalthami (26) and Todd Albert Nims (30), both Saudi raised, were invited to such a forum is a huge coup for the Saudi Arabian entertainment industry in general, and their production company, AB Media, in particular, as it showcases the underrated talent and ambition of Arab youth. Taking an unconventional approach to casting for Almost, including a hugely successful open casting call (the first in Saudi history) and finding Loai, one of the leads, in a hamburger joint, the pair have staked their claim as the creators of the first original Saudi youth comedy: a veritable brainchild of our millennial generation. This interview was conducted with them by the festival during the forum.
