    @Qualiaemily 4000 years ago, there were almost no federal elections….

    Today, beautiful …
    Today, beautiful Tasmania has passed amendments to recognise same-sex unions registered in other jurisdictions. from the abc online site:
    “The Tasmanian Parliament has approved laws recognising same-sex marriages and civil unions registered in other states or countries.
    Only three of the 25 Lower House MPs voted against the amendment to the Relationships Act “- all freakin mad Liberals.
    The move is on.

    @ParArdua try to …
    @ParArdua try to have some modicum of intellegence before trying to make “informed”comments. I happen to have a degree in Economics, Finance and Business, and this ‘massive homelessness’ in Western Australia alluded (delluded) to is simply non-existant. In fact, whilst the cost of living has risen somewhat, this has been offset more than sufficiently by significant rises in real rages, falling prices in some commodity markets, and low interest rate. WA has the highest per head income, too.

  4. AussiePolitics Says:

    @ParArdua ‘he …
    @ParArdua ‘he phrase two-speed economy does not even come close to describing this wet dream nightmare’ wow that’s a rather immature comment. what are you 15 years old and still find the topic of wet dreams fascinating?

  5. AussiePolitics Says:

    @ParArdua ‘lower …
    @ParArdua ‘lower prices for finite commodities’ i see, because you’d rather we charged everyone a lot more for our resources so a) we’d lose a lot of business and b) the costs would go up for everyone.
    hate to break it to you but house prices have been going up for decades. we haven’t had a correction in decades and that’s why they’re absurdly overpriced.

  6. ParArdua Says:

    I live the horror …
    I live the horror of a mining at all costs economy. The effect of unrestrained mining is lower prices for finite commodities. Anyone with a modicum of understanding of suppply/demand economics know the dangers implicit in this.
    In WA, mining has put house prices beyond the reach of a two wage household, including two doctors. It has caused massive homelessness and shortage of labour in skilled areas. The phrase two-speed economy does not even come close to describing this wet dream nightmare.

  7. AussiePolitics Says:

    @ParArdua both …
    @ParArdua both sides accuse each other of being ‘hate filled’ and 99% of the time its just crap. oh and by the way, actually look at how economically significant mining is for the WA economy and you’ll understand why ppl take it seriously.

  8. ParArdua Says:

    Sure, one day I …
    Sure, one day I hope, but we’re a very conservative country, and I live in a particularly hate-filled conservative state (WA). People are listening and regurgitating the politics of hate sewn by the Libs, Christian fundamentalists and Fielding First here, I think the Lib seats in WA are 10/14 – it is rough. Only a minority work ‘in the mines’, but they run the direction of all policies, we are the warning to Aust what happens under a conservative govt.
    Good luck in your life Woody.

    @ParArdua

    Yeah, I know labor has given more rights and Abbott would do his best to dismantle them. It doesn’t make it right that there is still no gay marriage though.

  10. ParArdua Says:

    Loveya Penny Wong ??
    (in a non-sexual, very respectful way).

  11. ParArdua Says:

    @Anoldtreeok

    @Anoldtreeok
    Labor were busy bring us equality in terns of Social Security, Super, anti-discrimaination legislation and Family law coverage, to go further would be far ahead of the australian electorate. You watch if Abbott gets in how he’ll dismantle these progressive steps, and that infamous lesbian from Rooty Hill RSL will really have something to whinge about.

  12. Anoldtreeok Says:

    Kind of sad it’s …
    Kind of sad it’s taking this long to just give equal marriage rights.

    @Chanelrox101
    By going so far over the top, ie Chinaman/ Chinawoman and South Australian man/ woman, it draws the attention of the viewer to how ridiculous the proposition is of taking the letter of the ‘Act’ so far. Also in the description box, there is a hint, “comic relief”. Clearly for some it was far too subtle, for others like me, it was not subtle enough.

  14. chitchant Says:

    @Chanelrox101
    Satire, yes. I still feel for Wong though. (If I can say that).

    @Quarker99
    It was a preview. ABC produced and own the footage. On this site, we get to see the best of YWC before it goes to air, very cool.

  16. chitchant Says:

    This ad makes me …
    This ad makes me even more appreciative and proud of Senator Wong. That she can put her personal views aside to assist her side to get re-elected is very noble. These days, everything is about the pursuit of personal goals at all costs. I don’t know if she’s up for re-election this time, but I wish her continued success, and I hope for us all a Senate free of the hysterical and hypocritical incumbrance of Fielding First.

    @Chanelrox101 its …
    @Chanelrox101 its just a joke dw
    its because she had to announce that Labour Party does not support gay marriage. It’s ironic because she is gay. So they are saying asians cant marry…so its a joke lol
    :D

  20. Chanelrox101 Says:

    Is this just a joke …
    Is this just a joke? cause that’s quite offensive ily penny wong

  21. Bower Says:

    What is Penny Wong’s view on a gay man marrying an asian woman?

    @tri400
    “gay marriages? have been illegal for about 4000″

    Never heard of Ancient Rome?

  24. chitchant Says:

    Penny Wong is a gem …
    Penny Wong is a gem
    all the crap she has to put up with from all sides
    and still managedsto turn up for question time.
    Give her peace, she doesn’t decide action on gay marriage, she has the whole world on her shoulders, quite literally.
    Read her maiden speech, it’s just brilliant. She does believe in equal rights for all, and like any cabinet minister, she is constrained by the rules of her party.

  25. ednawalling Says:

    The Rudd government …
    The Rudd government has achieved much in 3 years for gay individuals and gay couples: superannuation parity; full access to the Family Court; Centrelink parity; coverage by anti-discrimination act.
    Politics is the art of compromise. NOTHING can be achieved for gay rights from the opposition benches. Just as Wong has compromised her personally held beliefs that the marriage act should apply to equally to all, we should realise that much has been achieved, and marriage is a longer term goal.
