What are some movies or television shows similar to Arrested Development?

I’ve watched a lot of shows and movies that are in the same realm of humor, and I can’t seem to find anything new to watch for the past year or so. As many titles as possible is appreciated! I am on a search and keep getting the same shows and movies over and over that I’ve already seen, so anything you can think of is wonderful!

Wow tough question…it’s a great show and a pretty unique one at that too. As for similar realm of humour and possibly similar feel (as in single-camera setup) I’m sure you’ve watched most of these already but I’ll do my best:

30 Rock
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Extras
The Office (UK or US)
Monty Python’s Flying Circus
Curb Your Enthusiasm
The Inbetweeners
Pushing Daisies
Dead Like Me
Dexter (actually filled with lots of ironic humour too)
Flight of the Conchords
Wonderfalls

Basically you can’t go wrong with anything from Showtime or HBO :P
And far as movies go…I’ll try to tackle that another day. Hope that short list helps!

What are some good competitive engineering shows that still produce new episodes?

I used to love the shows Battle Bots, Junkyard Wars, Master Blasters, and pretty much any other in that genre. So far as I know however, there are no longer any shows like these. Sure, Adam and Jamie sometimes compete in Mythbusters, but that is not the same. Any suggestions?

I used to love those shows too, sadly, they havn’t aired much like them for some unknown reason.

Try www.hulu.com to find shows you would like, or even check discovery.com for their channel list.

Who agrees the shows today are not as good as they used to be?

Ok, so i was thinking about this today… TV shows are not as good as they were in the 90’s and early 2000’s.
When i think about the old shows, then think about the shows today- they are really not as good.
There are still good shows, but i think they are not so many.

I agree.
I also think it’s because I got older and my viewing habits changed.
I’m at the point where I don’t like cartoons anymore, and I hate reality shows, so that doesn’t leave me with much of a choice.

What channel can i find Dog Shows or other animal related shows?

I just want a channel i can watch dog competitions or something like the dog whisperer, or animal shows. I don’t have animal planet though.

Do you have cable or satellite? If so, ask why you don’t have Animal Planet. Loudly! Then, ask them what channel you can watch them on. I saw some episodes of Dog Whisperer on NGEO. That’s National Geographic Explorer. Isn’t he just about the greatest guy?!?! WE (not really sure of what that stands for) has a marathon today of Americas Cutest Puppies. But, of course, as you probably know, Animal Planet is the best!

What good quality shows are still being made on TV?

Do they still make new shows that are similar to Family Matters, The Cosby Show, Fresh Prince Of Bel Air or Malcolm In The Middle? Basically shows that are funny but don’t go overboard on swearing or being obscene. I am tired of all these new shows on TV that just seem tasteless.

30 Rock is fantastic. The Office is pretty good too. (both on NBC) Psych (on USA) isn’t exactly a sitcom like your examples, but it can be hilarious at times, plus it’s clean. You might like My Name is Earl (NBC), but I think it’s been canceled.

How do television shows know someone is watching there channel?

There will be new shows or new seasons that come on and they will always say something like, "13 million people were watching last night, or 10 million people clicked in yesterday or something like that". How do they know what I am watching?

Well …. actually nobody knows if you in particular are watching CSI. But, statically, they can guess that you are . . .

Actually, shows get credit based on surveys. The survey data is collected in a number of ways.
1) People Meters and Household Meters – this is equipment that the ratings survey company installs on your TV at your house (with your permission, of course) that reads codes hidden in the picture and audio that records what is on the TV and when.
2) Ratings diaries – these are books that viewers fill out about their viewing habits.
3) Telephone surveys.

In all cases, the viewers know that they are part of a survey group, agree to participate, and are usually paid some small amount for supplying viewing data. That data from the *small* survey group (a.k.a. sample) is then run through some mathematical magic to calculate the "rating" for each show.

These things are not always 100% accurate, but it’s the best the industry has. I can remember one station where I worked where one rating book said we were #1 sign on to sign off 7 days a week. We didn’t believe it, the other stations didn’t believe it, but we made a lot of sales that calendar quarter! Other periods, the book sucks for no good reason and we have to live with that too, so it all balances out . . .

So you see, when they say "50 million people are watching the game right now" they really don’t know for sure, but they can make an educated guess!
